Description

This is a black-glazed sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has made his highly anticipated debut after honing his pottery skills under the guidance of Ryuichi Kakurezaki. Its unique form, characterized by sharp edges, is accented by the vigorous, flowing application of the glaze, resulting in a fresh and dynamic style. Unlike his other glazed works, this piece features a jet-black glaze tone with no variation in shading, offering a profound, mesmerizing allure that feels as though it might pull you in. The light-absorbing black glaze combined with the deeply carved interior creates a vessel bottom that evokes the image of a black hole. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.7cm × Diameter 8.3cm × Height 5.1cm Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977. He completed the Bizen Pottery Center program in 2004, began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005, and became an independent artist in 2014.
