Description
This is a new Bizen beer tumbler by Makoto Kaneshige, who inherited the Maruyama Kiln as the eldest son of Sozan Kaneshige and captivates many with the harmony of delicate, elegant clay texture and powerful form. Crafted in accordance with the essence of Kaneshige Bizen—the philosophy of avoiding excessive decoration to let the clay speak for itself—the minimal diamond-shaped molding at the rim harmonizes with the whole, presenting a magnificent silhouette. The exposed clay surface, lightly spiced with coarse sand grains, allows you to enjoy the throat-feel and aroma of the beer, then savor the living clay by cradling the piece in your palm, while the texture, wet with cold moisture and beer, brings delight to the eyes. The earth-toned surface, faintly shimmering with a slight golden hue, is a bright caramel color that pairs perfectly with the rich, thick yellow sesame glaze achieved through intense firing.

Diameter 7.2cm x Diameter 7.2cm x Height 12.0cm Makoto Kaneshige is the eldest son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Sozan Kaneshige. He entered the path of pottery under his father in 1969 after graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyoto University. He became independent in 1979. Focusing primarily on tea ceramics thrown on the potter's wheel, he is known for his deep, rich firing techniques. He is committed to eliminating decoration as much as possible, focusing instead on channeling his soul directly into the clay. He rarely enters public exhibitions, preferring to focus his creative energy on solo exhibitions, which he holds energetically every year at department stores in Okayama, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto. In 1995, he held a solo exhibition in Munich, Germany, and in 1997, he exhibited at the Bizen Ware Paris Exhibition.
