Description
This is a new Bizen beer tumbler by Makoto Kaneshige, who inherited the Maruyama kiln as the eldest son of Sozan Kaneshige and captivates many with his harmony of delicate, elegant clay texture and powerful form. Crafted in accordance with the essence of Kaneshige Bizen—the philosophy of avoiding excessive decoration to bring the clay to life—the minimal diamond-shaped molding at the rim harmonizes with the whole, presenting a magnificent silhouette. The bare clay surface, lightly accented with grains of sand, allows you to enjoy the smooth flow of beer and the aroma of the malt, after which you can cradle it in your palms to appreciate the living clay, while the surface, dampened by the cool temperature and beer, provides a visual delight. The clay surface, faintly glowing with a touch of gold, has taken on a bright caramel hue, perfectly complemented by the rich, thickly fired yellow sesame glaze.

Diameter 7.3cm x Diameter 7.2cm x Height 12.6cm Makoto Kaneshige is the eldest son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder, Sozan Kaneshige. After graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyoto University, he began his path in ceramics under his father in 1969. He became independent in 1979. Working primarily on tea ceramics using a potter's wheel, his work is characterized by deep, rich firing. He focuses on eliminating decoration as much as possible and pouring his soul directly into the clay. He rarely enters public exhibitions, preferring to focus his efforts on solo exhibitions, which he holds energetically every year at department stores in Okayama, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto. In 1995, he held a solo exhibition in Munich, Germany, and in 1997, he exhibited at the Bizen Ware Paris Exhibition.
