Description

This is a new Bizen beer tumbler by Makoto Kaneshige, who inherited the Maruyama Kiln as the eldest son of Sozan Kaneshige and captivates many with his harmony of delicate, elegant clay texture and powerful form. Crafted in accordance with the philosophy of Kaneshige Bizen—which avoids excessive decoration to let the clay speak for itself—the minimalist diamond-shaped rim perfectly harmonizes with the whole, presenting a magnificent standing figure. The exposed clay surface, lightly spiced with fine sand grains, allows you to enjoy the smooth swallow and aroma of the beer, while also letting you appreciate the vitality of the clay in the palm of your hand; the surface, moistened by the chill and the beer, offers a visual delight as well. The clay surface, faintly glowing with a subtle touch of gold, has taken on a bright caramel hue, which pairs perfectly with the rich, molten-fired yellow sesame glaze.

Diameter 7.1cm × Diameter 6.9cm × Height 12.2cm Makoto Kaneshige is the eldest son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder Sozan Kaneshige. After graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture at Kyoto University, he began his path in pottery under his father in 1969. He became independent in 1979. He primarily creates tea ceramics on the potter's wheel and is known for his deep, rich firing techniques. He focuses on eliminating decoration as much as possible, choosing instead to pour his soul directly into the clay. He rarely enters public exhibitions, preferring to focus his creative energy on solo exhibitions, which he holds energetically every year at department stores in Okayama, Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, and Kumamoto. In 1995, he held a solo exhibition in Munich, Germany, and in 1997, he exhibited at the Bizen Ware Paris Exhibition.
