Description

This Bizen sake cup is from Yoshinobu Morimoto's new exhibition. Drawing on the sensibilities he honed through his experiments with the input and output of antique Bizen ware, he has crafted a piece with a dynamic form that conveys a sense of free and vigorous spirit. True to Morimoto's style of challenging the masterpieces of antique ceramics, this piece possesses a powerful form that feels like a miniature tea bowl. The brightly colored yellow sesame glaze (kigoma) is finely speckled across the surface, creating a scene with a three-dimensional quality. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 7.2cm x 6.9cm x Height 5.5cm Yoshinobu Morimoto was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1976. He completed the Bizen Pottery Center program in 1996. After working independently, he held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2004. Since then, he has held annual solo exhibitions nationwide, primarily in Tokyo. He was selected for the Tanabe Art Museum's "Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition" in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Sake Ware Exhibition" at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi in Tokyo, and in 2009, he exhibited at the "Contemporary Tea Bowl Exhibition" at Nihombashi Mitsukoshi in Tokyo. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition titled "Yoshinobu Morimoto Special Feature" at Tenmaya in Okayama, among many other exhibitions throughout the country.
