Description

This is a Hidasuki large tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist and former live-in apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. The piece was fired by slowly and patiently raising the temperature to treat the clay with care, resulting in a magnificent Mogusa-colored clay texture that exudes an elegant charm. The superb Momoyama-style Hidasuki, achieved through an electric kiln—a technique beloved by his mentor, Sozan Kaneshige—shines beautifully against the Mogusa clay. The form possesses a unique balance characteristic of hand-molded pottery, and the rounded texture with its subtle irregularities complements the warm scenery of the Hidasuki. The base is crafted with a sturdy, thick wall to lower the center of gravity, providing excellent stability despite its large, rounded shape. Paper box
Diameter 10.0cm × 9.9cm × Height 10.0cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he aspired to a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school, he studied pottery techniques under the father-son duo of Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989. After seven years of training, he built an ascending kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and established his independence in 1996, successfully completing his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold exhibitions every year since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Vessels I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
