Description

This is a Hidasuki large tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, a popular young artist who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a piece that expresses a magnificent, refined "mogusa" (clay-colored) earthy quality, fired by slowly and carefully raising the temperature as if cherishing the clay. The wonderful Momoyama-style Hidasuki, created using an electric kiln—a technique loved by his mentor, Sozan Kaneshige—stands out brilliantly against the mogusa-colored clay. It features a unique, hand-molded balance, and the rounded texture with its fine irregularities perfectly complements the warm scenery of the Hidasuki. The base is thick and sturdy, shifting the center of gravity; despite its large, rounded form, it is very stable. Paper box
Diameter 10.0cm × 9.8cm × Height 9.8cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he aspired to a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City in 1996 and became independent, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionary Vessels I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
