Description

This is a hexagonal Ibe sake cup from Yoshinobu Morimoto's new exhibition. It is part of a series that expresses the world of the tea ceremony, featuring formal implements used in tea kaiseki (cha-kaiseki) arranged in the Bizen style. Serving as a reproduction in the Ibe style of a yellow Seto (Ki-Seto) hexagonal sake cup—a vessel of particularly high prestige, typically served alongside a sake flask for guests—this work is born from a highly creative vision, embodying what one might call a "creative copy." The "goma" (ash glaze), fired firmly with a decided front, shows a deep, thick, flowing yellow, creating a world that is at once ornate and profound, distinct from the ruggedness of everyday pottery. Much like the original yellow Seto, the base is designed with use in mind, featuring a flared foot that ensures both stability and a sense of refinement as it matures through use. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.1cm × Height 4.9cm
