Description

This Bizen hand-formed hobin teapot is by Teruhiko Omori, who studied under his father-in-law, the master artisan Nido Okai II, and inherited a style that infuses precision with a sense of dynamism. It is a magnificent teapot featuring a finial shaped like a reclining dragon gazing toward the heavens, reminiscent of Nido II’s work. The dragon's sharp talons are sculpted in relief onto the lid, brilliantly capturing the raw power of a creature poised to rend all things and seize the sacred jewel. Much like the way iron or silver is hammered, the rounded body was shaped by pressing with the fingers again and again; the finely etched thumbprints bear witness to his masterful technique. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter including spout 11.0cm × Body diameter 9.3cm × Height including lid 8.3cm Teruhiko Omori graduated from Okayama Prefectural Takamatsu Agricultural High School and worked at the Okayama City Office, but his love for Bizen ware led him to visit kilns and artists in his spare time. In 1970, he made the decision to resign from the city office and entered the world of ceramics, apprenticing under his father-in-law, the renowned Bizen master Nido Okai II. He honed his skills while observing Nido II at the potter's wheel, while also visiting senior artists in his free time to seek their guidance. Following Nido II's passing in 1982, he took over the kiln, fired his first kiln load, and embarked on his career as an artist. He built a new climbing kiln in 1996 and renovated it in 2001. As the successor to the prestigious "Nido Kiln," he continues to devote himself to his craft, bringing out the unique characteristics of Bizen clay.
