Description
This is an Ibe katakuchi (spouted bowl) from Yoshinobu Morimoto's new exhibition. It is part of a series that recreates the style of early Ko-Karatsu "Okugorai" pottery from the inception of Karatsu ware, a period triggered by the so-called "Teabowl Wars," using the Bizen technique. Created in accordance with the traditional Karatsu production style, the artist emphasizes speed to produce a large volume of pieces, from which only those of exceptional quality are carefully selected for public release. In particular, this piece achieves a perfect balance between artifice and naturalness in its spatula marks and oval form. The robust Ibe firing, combined with the exquisite spatula work, provides a profound depth of character.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included.
Diameter 14.4cm x 10.8cm x Height 7.0cm
