Description
This Bizen sake cup is from Yoshinobu Morimoto's latest exhibition. It is part of a series that recreates the style of early Karatsu and old Karatsu "Oku-Korai" ware—the era that began with the so-called "Tea Bowl Wars"—using Bizen clay. Following the Karatsu production style, the pieces are created with an emphasis on speed and quantity, after which only those of exceptional quality are carefully selected for release. Despite the immense skill involved, the work possesses a gentle expression that feels completely natural and unforced. The firing, with its unassuming *goma* (ash glaze) and *sangiri* (reduction-fired) patterns, perfectly matches the artlessness of his style, further refining its rustic and withered aesthetic.
