Description

This is a *hidaski* (fire-cord) sake cup from Yoshinobu Morimoto’s new exhibition. Drawing on the sensibilities refined through his deep study and reinterpretation of antique Bizen ware, he has created a form brimming with vibrant energy and a free-spirited character. True to his style of challenging the masterpieces of ancient pottery, this piece possesses a striking presence, as if it were a miniature tea bowl. The black, ink-like surface is complemented by *hidaski* markings that resemble vermilion ink, creating a compelling effect as if they are emerging from the clay itself. Within the withered, austere texture of the clay lies a landscape that burns with intensity; if an ancient tea master were to see this work, they would surely delight in it and nurture it through use. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.1cm × 6.8cm × Height 5.7cm
