Description

This is a newly fired Bizen sake cup by Junpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of the renowned Kosuke Kaneshige, a leading figure of the Kaneshige family. It features a spectacular "nuke" (clear patch) that serves as a textbook example of "korogashi" kiln transformation, with a striking contrast that is exceptional both in appearance and in how it will evolve with use. The untouched, raw surface of the nuke area has a hue approaching orange, with gentle gradations centered around the base, allowing you to fully appreciate the authentic essence of the clay—the true delight of Bizen ware. With a capacity of 90cc when filled to the brim, it would also be interesting to use as a shot glass. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.3cm × Height 6.4cm Junpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo, in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University in 1994. In 2000, he completed a graduate program in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, USA, and upon returning to Japan, he began studying under his father, Kosuke Kaneshige.
