Description

A new Bizen teacup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kousuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. Rather than asserting a bold personality, this wonderful teacup invites you to relax and enjoy the soft colors of the sesame glaze and the variations in the clay across its surface. In terms of construction, it does not force the clay; rather, the form embraces the natural stretch of the wheel, with a subtle hint of his own "individual" touch woven into it. The piece does not evoke the raging fires of a kiln, but instead feels as though it is drifting on a soft bed of earth. It is a work that, through long use, will remind you of the vital work that takes place before the wheel turns and the firing begins. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 8.3cm × Diameter 8.2cm × Height 10.2cm Jumpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo, in 1972 as the eldest son of Kousuke Kaneshige. He graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University in 1994. In 2000, he completed a graduate program in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, USA, and upon returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Kousuke Kaneshige.
