Description
This is a newly fired Bizen beer tumbler by Iwao Kaneshige, who was born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family and has been diligently working at the kiln used by the legendary Tōyō Kaneshige and Dōmyō Kaneshige for generations. It is a simple beer tumbler that highlights the natural texture of the clay favored by Kaneshige, with each piece featuring a playful, unique design, such as added lugs or a spout-like rim. It was placed in a spot within the kiln that allowed for kiln-transmutation (yohen), which is noted in the box inscription. For this reason, the artist used his deeply carved "I" pottery seal to prevent it from being obscured by falling ash.
Original wooden box (with lid stay)
