Description

This is a freshly kiln-fired *Ibe yohen* (kiln-transmutation) sake cup by Iwao Kaneshige, who was born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family and has been diligently honing his craft at the kiln handed down through generations by the great Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige. Overflowing with the sensibility of Iwao Kaneshige, who avoids gimmicks and contrived *goma* (ash glaze) effects, this is a new style of "kiln-transmutation" that is simple, quiet, and serene. Eschewing anything extraordinary, the sole and greatest characteristic is its exposed raw surface, which emphasizes the texture of the clay and allows for the enjoyment of its soft quality. It features a *warikodai* (split foot) design, resulting in a piece brimming with playful spirit. As you polish and cherish the sunset-red surface, you will be able to enjoy an exquisite tactile experience. Signed wooden box (double-crosspiece)
Diameter 6.5cm × Diameter 6.5cm × Height 7.0cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, his love for pottery led him to pursue the path of a ceramicist. He refined his techniques under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, went independent in 1995, and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He has exhibited in the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
