Description

This is a new Ibe yohen (kiln-transmuted) sake cup, fresh from the kiln of Iwao Kaneshige, who was born and raised in the prestigious Kaneshige family and has been diligently honing his craft at the kiln where his legendary predecessors, Toyo Kaneshige and Michiaki Kaneshige, fired their works for generations. It is a new style of "yohen" that is simple, quiet, and serene, overflowing with the character of Iwao Kaneshige, who dislikes flashy tricks or contrived "goma" (ash glaze) effects. Its sole and greatest feature is its bare, unadorned surface, which focuses primarily on the texture of the clay without any special treatment, allowing one to enjoy its soft feel. It features a geta-style (clog-shaped) foot that gives it a playful finish. The clay body, which has taken on a deep shiso-purple hue and is mixed with slightly coarse stones, possesses a truly profound charm. Signed wooden box (double-braced lid)
Diameter 6.6cm x Diameter 6.5cm x Height 7.2cm Iwao Kaneshige is the eldest son of Michiaki Kaneshige. Born and raised in a family of Bizen ware artists, he pursued the path of pottery because he loved the craft himself. After honing his ceramic techniques under the guidance of the Kaneshige family, he became independent in 1995 and held his first solo exhibition at a gallery in Okayama. He exhibited at the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions in 1999 and 2001.
