Description

This is a Bizen nerikomi (kneaded clay) sake cup in white by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. Using eight different types of elutriated Bizen clay, the cup achieves a marble-like texture and color, offering a magnificent tactile experience. Its avant-garde design, resembling a twisted rectangular prism, is characteristic of the nerikomi technique, which avoids the use of a potter's wheel. It can be nested inside the simultaneously listed NO3808, a thoughtful touch typical of Nakahara’s focus on creating pieces that fit contemporary living. Signed wooden box (two-sided crosspiece)
W5.7cm × D5.7cm × H7.5cm Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978. He graduated from the advanced course at Nara College of Arts in 2000 and the Bizen Pottery Center in 2001. That same year, he began studying under Fumio Kawabata, and in 2007, he joined the Kaneshige Ritoen kiln. Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition and various public competitions. He is currently an associate member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
