Description

This is "Noah" by Fujita Sho, who entered the Bizen Ceramic Center after studying fine arts in general. It is a work that lets the elegant and fresh inspiration characteristic of Fujita-sensei—who has studied fine arts such as oil painting since a young age—blossom through his own unique technique. The design, inspired by Noah's Ark, is primitive like a mural, yet overflowing with a sense of dynamism. He uses a reverse-inlay technique to bring out the image: he creates a massive wooden board, presses clay onto it to raise the lines, and then fills the surrounding area with a different type of clay.
