Description

This is a new Hidasuki bowl by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is a superb piece that expresses an elegant, aromatic "mogusa" (mugwort) colored clay texture, fired by slowly and patiently raising the temperature as if caring for the clay. Not only is the coloration of the fire-cord (hidasuki) magnificent, but one can also feel Mr. Koriki’s aesthetic sense in the way the straw is wrapped, extending beyond mere vibrant color. This small bowl is of a convenient size and seems suitable for serving anything. It was thrown thinly on a potter's wheel and fired to a high degree of hardness, producing a clear, metallic ring when touched. Paper box
Diameter 15.2cm × Diameter 15.0cm × Height 6.3cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, who loved pottery, he pursued a path in ceramics, and after graduating from high school in 1989, he studied ceramic techniques under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son, Yuho Kaneshige. After seven years of training, he built an ascending kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Bowls from the North I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
