Description
This is a new colored Bizen sake cup by Anjin Abe, a master with deep insight and an aesthetic sense for antique pottery who creates one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. It features the same type of grasshopper motif that is scheduled to be published in the magazine *Fire Art* (*Honoo Geijutsu*), and this is a one-time, limited production. It is an excellent work that skillfully depicts a charming grasshopper walking under a scorching sun in shades of pale blue and green. You can also enjoy the profound, flowing sesame-seed-like glaze (nagare-goma) characteristic of a master of Momoyama tea ceramics, as demonstrated once again in the Furuta Oribe Exhibition, the Kakaku Exhibition, and the Anjin Abe Exhibition; here, the world of Momoyama tea ceramics and Anjin Abe’s unique vision cross over magnificently.

Diameter 6.9cm x Diameter 5.9cm x Height 6.4cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. He began collecting pottery as a hobby, but finding contemporary Bizen ware lacking, he started his own ceramic practice in 1972 to create pieces that satisfied his standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all of which are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His pottery is rooted in the antique Bizen ware of the Momoyama period, with a particular focus on firing techniques. He also engages in diverse expressive activities, presenting mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and overseas, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
