Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his skills on the rigorous path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. For this piece, the artist used a clay refined to an exceptionally fine consistency through a levigation process rarely seen even within the Kaneshige family. While his previous works have typically utilized clay with a slightly sandier texture, this piece features a remarkably fine and smooth surface. The body of the cup is well-fired, and the "nuke" (unfired or protected area) showcases a golden hue that further accentuates the fineness of the clay quality. Signed wooden box (double-slatted lid)
Diameter 6.4cm × Diameter 6.2cm × Height 5.8cm Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he began his pursuit of pottery under the guidance of his father, Susumu Kaneshige. In 2011, he held a solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya.
