Description

This is a new Bizen sake flask by Tamon Kaneshige, who continues to hone his craft on the demanding path of pottery, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Susumu Kaneshige. This piece is crafted using clay that has been refined to an exceptionally fine consistency through a levigation process rarely seen even among the Kaneshige family. While his previous works have utilized clay with a somewhat coarser, sandy texture, this piece features a remarkably fine and smooth surface. The nature of the clay gives the entire piece a subtle luster, with a moist-looking finish that adds a sense of refinement to the *kase-goma* (dry sesame ash) glaze. (Please note in advance that there is a small chip on the rim, as shown in photo 7.) Signed wooden box (futohozan) included
Rim 3.3cm × Body diameter 9.9cm × Body diameter 9.8cm × Height 13.1cm, Capacity 400cc Tamon Kaneshige was born in Okayama City in 1977. He graduated from the Faculty of Business and Commerce at Keio University in 2000. In 2004, he entered the path of pottery under his father, Susumu Kaneshige. He held his first solo exhibition at Okayama Tenmaya in 2011.
