Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Hisanaga Koide, who has made his long-awaited debut after completing a lengthy apprenticeship under Juro Harada. It was crafted without kneading the clay excessively, leaving variations in its composition that allow white marble-like patterns to emerge on the tanned, brownish surface. Furthermore, perhaps due to the influence of the clay, the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings are richer and have a stronger luster, appearing like intense, reddish-brown oil paint. The texture of the base is also excellent, with the reddish-brown clay body feeling as moist as if it had been polished with camellia oil. The powerful, coiled construction gives it a spirited quality that makes one want to pour a dry sake right down the throat.
