Description
This Oribe sake cup is by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. While one is immediately drawn to its highly original, avant-garde design, holding it in your hands reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a deep understanding of the clay's nature, followed by an extraordinary amount of time and effort in the finishing process—a work born from single-mindedly forging the earth, much like a master swordsmith. This process creates raw, fierce cracks and textures on the surface of the vessel that human hands alone could never intentionally replicate, achieving a magnificent harmony with the volume and color of glazes specially formulated for each type of clay. The refreshing hue of the Oribe glaze looks stunning against the rugged cracks, reminiscent of when a shovel first cuts into raw earth.
