Description
This is a newly kiln-fired "Saishiki Bizen" (colored Bizen) sake cup by Anjin Abe, an artist whose deep insight into antique ceramics and keen aesthetic sense have allowed him to create one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. It features a powerful composition with a majestic Mt. Fuji set against a brilliant red background. The colors in this piece are exceptionally vivid; the silvery-white Mt. Fuji and the matte blue accents are balanced in a unique way, achieving a three-dimensional effect through techniques such as the bubbling texture of the snow-capped peak. Complemented by the rich, oil-painting-like "goma" (ash glaze) that is the hallmark of Abe’s work, this piece creates a world where art and pottery are masterfully fused. The gold coloring has also been updated in this edition, resulting in a brighter, more brilliant luster than before.

Diameter 6.6cm x Diameter 6.1cm x Height 6.5cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. After collecting ceramics as a hobby and feeling unsatisfied with contemporary Bizen ware, he began his own pottery practice in 1972 to create pieces that met his own standards. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups. All are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His work is based on the aesthetic of Momoyama-period antique Bizen, with a meticulous focus on firing techniques. He also engages in diverse artistic activities, presenting works (mixed media) that combine various materials and techniques such as ceramics, lacquer, oil paint, and bronze. He holds solo exhibitions energetically both in Japan and internationally, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
