Description

This is a Bizen Hidasuki katakuchi (spouted bowl) by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It features exquisite Hidasuki that carries on the techniques of Sozan Kaneshige, who developed the fresh, vibrant style of Hidasuki firing by using both wood and electric kilns. The firing process, which takes even longer than a climbing kiln to gradually raise the temperature, results in a level of vitrification so dense that the piece rings like metal when tapped with a finger. It is a highly versatile vessel that can be used as a serving bowl for food or as a pitcher for sake. Paper box
15.1cm diameter × 12.1cm diameter × 6.3cm height Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Inspired by his father’s love for pottery, he set his heart on a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied ceramic techniques under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige. Following a seven-year apprenticeship, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and successfully held his first firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Pottery for Sweets Exhibition," and in 2002, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Ceramics for Tea Ceremony" for the first time.
