Description

This is a Bizen hidaski (fire-cord) katakuchi (spouted bowl) by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It features exquisite hidaski markings that inherit the technique developed by Sozan Kaneshige, who created a fresh, vibrant style of fire-cord by using both wood and electric kiln firing. The firing method, which involves raising the temperature more slowly and carefully than in a climbing kiln, gives the piece such a dense, hard-fired quality that it rings like metal when tapped with a finger. This versatile piece serves equally well as a bowl for serving food or as a pitcher for enjoying sake. Paper box
Diameter 15.9cm x Diameter 11.9cm x Height 6.4cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Inspired by his father, who loved ceramics, he aspired to pursue the path of pottery. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho Kaneshige to learn the craft. Following seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and held his first successful firing the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Exhibition of Northern Confectionery Vessels I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
