Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Keiji Yoshikawa, who encountered various types of pottery from across the country at a young age and, captivated by the works of Anjin Abe, has followed in his footsteps. Its unique, alluring form, reminiscent of a miniaturized Raku tea bowl, embodies a style that is at once quiet and dynamic, encompassing subtle movements inspired by Momoyama-period ceramics. The rich, thick yellow sesame glaze, created through multiple firings, flows like liquid over the surface, embellishing the vessel. The bitter-chocolate-colored body features a texture slightly akin to "yuzu-hada" (citron skin), suggesting it was high-fired in an anagama kiln with masterful control of water vapor—a magnificent recreation of ancient Bizen. Signed wooden box to follow (please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 7.4cm × Diameter 7.0cm × Height 5.6cm Keiji Yoshikawa was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1983. He studied under Isamu Ishige and Toshio Kinjo starting in 2005, and in 2009, he worked as a staff member at the Jokusai Pottery Studio. Subsequently, he began his apprenticeship under Anjin Abe in 2012.
