Description
This amber-glazed glass was created by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create crafts that suit modern life. The "best of both worlds" approach that Mr. Nakahara insists upon is incorporated into this piece: the exterior features an amber glaze to increase durability and enhance its visual beauty, while the interior uses Bizen-style "hidasuki" (fire-cord) markings to improve usability and allow for changes in appearance over time. By layering straw-ash glaze over the amber glaze, he has achieved a unique texture that is an original take on the Madara-Karatsu style. To further bring out the profound, subtle charm of the straw-ash glaze, he applied carved patterns to the surface of the vessel in a twisted design, further enhancing the perfection of the piece's aesthetic.
