Description

This is a somewhat earlier Bizen sake cup by Go Kaneshige, who built his kiln in Kuguizaka, where he continues his research and pottery making. The potter's mark is "Go," indicating it was created before he moved his kiln to Kuguizaka. It features a graceful appearance, characteristic of Kaneshige Bizen, combining a soft scarlet hue with understated, matte *kase* sesame glaze. *Kase* (matte) glaze, which undergoes more significant changes through use than almost any other Bizen finish, is perfect for a sake cup, a vessel intended for frequent daily use. It possesses a charm that will make it impossible to part with as you use and nurture it over time. (Please note that while there are few signs of wear, this is an earlier work.) Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.7cm x 6.3cm x Height 5.9cm Go Kaneshige was born as the second son of Intangible Cultural Property holder Michiaki Kaneshige, and is the grandson of the legendary Living National Treasure, Toyo Kaneshige. Go Kaneshige graduated from the Ashiya Institute of Fine Arts and Music in 1988. After working at the Atelier Hikousen Ceramics Research Institute in 1992, he returned to Bizen. In September 1996, he exhibited at the Bizen Young Artists Exhibition. Since May 1999, he has been actively involved in exhibitions, including the Kaneshige Family Exhibitions.
