Description

This is a newly fired *Ibe-de* tea cup by Shusaku Taku, a potter who brings to life the various inspirations of daily existence using Bizen ware—a craft that has matured alongside human activity throughout the ages. The piece features a highly playful form suited to the *Ibe-de* style, with attractive potter’s wheel marks left only on the base and stylish spatula carvings. Particular attention has been paid to the *Ibe-de* slip; rather than a flat black, it exhibits a gradient from brownish-red to black, created by the varying thickness of the slip application. The vivid mustard-colored *goma* (ash glaze) also complements the texture of the *Ibe-de* surface beautifully. Paper box
