Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. It is his latest work, removed from the kiln in the spring of 2016, and is a magnificently fired piece from what appears to have been a highly successful firing. The sake cup exhibits a superb scarlet hue, and the vivid, persimmon-like orange clay texture possesses a bewitching charm that makes you want to polish it with sake the moment you lay eyes on it. The *kase-goma* (crusty ash) landscape is also exceptionally well-fired; appearing somewhere between an ash-covered (*haikaburi*) and a crusty ash finish, the firing is outstanding, possessing a sense of purity that transcends mere intensity. Diameter 7.0cm × 6.8cm × Height 5.4cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a lover of ceramics, he aspired to the path of pottery. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied under the masters Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige, father and son, to learn the art of ceramics. After seven years of training, he established his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Exhibition of Confectionery Vessels I Want to Use," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
