Description
This is a new Bizen black sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating pieces and firing kilns. For this work, Baba has taken his signature black Bizen sake cup, crafted using applied slip, and daringly fired it while completely covered in ash, to the point where the original surface is barely visible. The black surface, fired beyond its limits, has melded with the ash-covered kiln changes to create a faint, greenish ash-covered effect never seen before. The depth and richness of the black, including the interior, resemble India ink, and this unprecedented kiln change speaks to the profound nature of Bizen ware.
