Description
This is a new Bizen gold-painted carved yunomi (tea cup) by Takashi Baba, who was born in Imbe, has loved Bizen ware since childhood, and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This yunomi is part of the gold-painted series he challenged himself to create in this recent kiln firing, featuring a *hidasuki* (fire-cord) pattern that shines like metal across the surface of the vessel. The piece features eye-catching, ambitious craftsmanship characteristic of Baba-sensei, including fine spatula carvings that accentuate the brilliance of the gold, and a tripod-style cut foot. Although it is a yunomi, its nearly spherical shape makes it well-suited for use as a shochu cup or a café au lait bowl.
