Description
This is a new Bizen gold-painted carved yunomi (teacup) by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This yunomi is from the gold-painted series he challenged himself to create in this recent kiln firing, featuring a scarlet "hidasuki" flame pattern that shines across the surface like metal. The piece catches the eye with the artist's characteristically daring craftsmanship, such as the fine cuts made with a spatula to accentuate the gold luster and the three-legged "warikodadai" foot. Although it is a yunomi, its near-spherical shape makes it versatile enough to serve as a shochu cup or a café au lait bowl.
