Description

This is a new Kohiki sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. While one is immediately drawn to its highly original, avant-garde design, holding it reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a deep understanding of the clay's properties, combined with an incredible amount of time and meticulous effort; the work is born from the act of forging the clay with single-minded devotion, much like a swordsmith. Named "Kohiki," this piece features a backdrop where vermilion and white mingle, while indigo and black glazes dance across the surface as if splashing. The contrast in texture between the smooth vermilion glaze and the rugged, wrinkled Kohiki sections is also fascinating.
