Description

This is a new Kohiki sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to the original, avant-garde design, holding it in your hands reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a deep understanding of the material, along with an extraordinary amount of time and meticulous effort; this piece was born from an unrelenting dedication to forging the clay, much like a master swordsmith. Named "Kohiki" (brushed slip), this piece expresses a unique world of white through the layering of three different whites: a base slip, a deeper white slip, and a thick, final white glaze. The vibrant splashes of indigo and black glaze across the surface provide a truly excellent accent.
