Description
This is a new work, R432 Sake Cup - Silver, by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to its highly original, avant-garde design, holding it reveals the immense passion poured into expressing the beauty of the material: clay. To achieve these beautiful curves and edges, one must understand the nature of the clay and invest a staggering amount of time and effort into the finishing process; it is a work born from single-mindedly forging the clay, much like a master swordsmith. This is the latest piece in the R432 series, inspired by luster glaze. It features a deep, clear, obsidian-like black glaze base, from which the jade and indigo tones characteristic of the R432 series seem to emerge. Even after firing, the surface appears as if wet black glaze is still sliding across it, possessing a mysterious allure as if one has scooped up the dark matter said to exist in the universe.
