Description

This is the new platinum-glazed sake cup, Prism, by Toru Ichikawa, who studied under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and made a sensational debut. While one is immediately drawn to its highly original, avant-garde design, holding it in your hands reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a deep understanding of the clay's properties, followed by a terrifying amount of time and meticulous effort; it is a piece born from forging the clay with single-minded dedication, much like a swordsmith. Among his platinum-glazed works, this piece stands out with an exceptionally unique glaze texture, achieved by layering drop after drop of glaze over the base coat to create a bubbling effect. Titled "Prism," this work possesses an atmosphere that feels as though it were cast in metal, despite being ceramic.
