Description

This is a new platinum-glazed sake cup by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to its highly original, avant-garde design, holding it reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of the clay itself. Creating these beautiful curves and edges requires a profound understanding of the clay's properties, coupled with a staggering amount of time and meticulous effort; it is a work born from tirelessly forging the clay, much like a master swordsmith. This piece features a rare glaze effect that stands out even among his platinum-glazed works, with the platinum shifting into a dark silver hue and the body textured with unique wrinkles, like weathered rock. The form itself emphasizes sharp edges, resulting in a powerful style that appears as if it were carved directly from stone.
