Description
This is a brand new Bizen sake cup, freshly taken from the kiln by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige school. These latest works were fired between late May and June 2016, and by slightly altering his firing technique from previous sessions, he has successfully brought out even greater qualities of the clay. This sake cup is one of the few exceptional "haikaburi" (ash-covered) kiln transformations from this firing, featuring a vivid, dramatic "kumadori" pattern with a magnificent balance of black and silver tones. When used, the sake will wet the cup, causing the exquisite ash-covered surface to take on an even deeper hue, and the glossy black finish will continue to develop beautifully as it is seasoned by the sake.
