Description

This is a Kohiki sake cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, who was an inner disciple of the master Sozan Kaneshige. The pure white glaze, inherited from Sozan Kaneshige—who himself was mentored in glazed ceramics by Munemaro Ishiguro—is truly magnificent. While using clay from the Bizen region, the work is a highly authentic Kohiki piece, evidenced by the texture of the clay visible in the foot and the application of the pure white slip. The snow-white slip has a remarkably smooth finish, ensuring that it is as pleasant to use as it is to look at. Original signed wooden box (shiho-zan)
Diameter 8.4cm x 8.1cm x Height 5.3cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father’s love for pottery, he decided to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho to learn the craft. After seven years of training, he built an ascending kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Kitano Kashi-ki" (Tea Sweets Vessel) exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu no Zokei" (Forms of Tea Ceremony) exhibition for the first time.
