Description

This is a Bizen hexagonal plate by Kenji Nakamoto, who has been working with pottery in Ibe since his university days and studied under Shin Isezaki. It is a hexagonal plate characterized by a clean and refined aesthetic, completely dispelling the image that Bizen ware is heavy and stifling. Nakamoto specializes almost exclusively in tableware, which is rare for a Bizen potter, and his work is filled with the keen sensibility and ingenuity typical of a professional tableware craftsman. The clay used has a smooth, light texture, and the firing creates a bright sesame glaze and vibrant scarlet clay tones, making the piece stylish and easy to use, while still retaining the essential Bizen qualities of color changes when wet and the ability to beautifully complement any food served on it. The careful attention to detail in the treatment of the rims and the textured stone-like finish is evident in every single piece. Paper box
