Description
This is a new Hidasuki sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who continues to evolve in his handling of clay, firing, and craftsmanship. He has masterfully captured the "wabi-sabi" expression centered on the earthy flavor inherent in old Bizen ware, resulting in a piece brimming with highlights that seem to speak to the viewer. While Morimoto's Hidasuki shows great variety, this piece opts for a refined, rustic Hidasuki that retains an earthy quality, rather than the high-status, "daimyo-style" Hidasuki. Despite being a Hidasuki piece, the star is undoubtedly the clay surface itself; the slightly thick, thrown body, combined with a coarse texture, provides a delightful tactile experience. The subtle Hidasuki in the interior also carries a wonderful charm, making this a piece packed with the quintessential flavor of Bizen.
