Description

This is a new Bizen hidasuki (fire-cord) rinka (petal-shaped) sake cup by Megumi Sueda, a female ceramic artist who studied under Anjin Abe and captivates fans with her unique works. Like her mentor, Anjin Abe, her work features vivid hidasuki composed of planes and lines, possessing a beauty that rivals that of ancient Bizen ware. This piece is a petal-shaped cup that highlights a more feminine sensibility, and its elegant, ornate style—backed by high technical skill—makes it a joy to use. Even with its authentic, old-Bizen-style hidasuki firing, the piece feels light and airy rather than heavy or imposing; its golden, well-fired body accented by brilliant red hidasuki will surely bring a bright and festive atmosphere to any drinking occasion. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 8.1cm × Diameter 8.1cm × Height 4.0cm Megumi Sueda graduated from the Faculty of Law and Literature at Shimane University in 1990 and completed her studies at the Okuizumo Ceramic Art Institute attached to the Shimane Design College in 2001. She studied under sculptor Anjin Abe in 2001. In 2002, she built an underground anagama kiln, "Hanae-gama," in Yokota-cho, Nita-gun, Shimane Prefecture. She has held group exhibitions in Tokyo in 2002, and in Sapporo and Niigata in 2003, among others.
