Description

This is a new gold-leaf sake cup, "Prism," by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to the highly original, avant-garde design, holding the piece reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of clay as a medium. To achieve such beautiful curves and edges, he must understand the nature of the clay and dedicate an incredible amount of time and effort to the finishing process; the work is born from him single-mindedly forging the clay, much like a swordsmith. This piece features a rare glaze texture that stands out even among his gold-leaf works, created by applying the glaze drop by drop over the initial layer to produce a bubbly effect. Titled "Prism," this work possesses an atmosphere as if it were cast in metal, despite being ceramic. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 6.0cm x Diameter 5.8cm x Height 6.3cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in June 2011 and established his own studio in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
