Description
This is a new *nerikomi* (marbled clay) sake cup by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. The cup features a marble-like surface, achieved by mixing and high-firing several types of clay. Ash glaze is poured only into the interior, which transforms the marbled pattern and enhances both water resistance and texture. The base remains unmarbled, as the artist creates the body's marbled pattern by first laying down a base of prepared clay and then stacking and kneading non-marbled clay on top. Each swirl of the earth reveals a meaningful movement, and combined with the meticulous craftsmanship, this creates a work that is both simple and profound.
