Description
This is a new pedestal plate by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. This pedestal plate is characterized by a surface resembling black marble, achieved by mixing several types of mountain clay and firing it to a dense, unglazed finish (yakishime). The lower part of the plate is not marbled; instead, it is created by laying down a base of pre-mixed clay, placing coiled, tube-like marbled clay on top, and then shaving it down with a spatula to reveal the marble pattern. As a result, the marble pattern has an interesting, swirling regularity.
