Description

This new Oribe-glazed hexagonal small plate is the work of Koji Nakahara, a student of Fumio Kawabata, who aims to create pieces that fit modern lifestyles. As a unique Bizen-ware artist based in the major metropolis of Osaka, Nakahara creates stylish and functional small plates tailored to the requests of chefs at various high-end ryotei and restaurants. The clean, hexagonal design paired with a subtly subdued Oribe glaze gives the piece a charming presence reminiscent of a tortoiseshell. Designed with a shallow profile, the plates are space-saving, standing only about 4 cm high when stacked in a set of five. Paper box
Approx. 10.9 cm diameter x 9.6 cm diameter x 1.4 cm height
(As each piece is handmade, there may be slight variations in size) Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978. He graduated from the Advanced Course at Nara College of Arts in 2000 and the Bizen Pottery Center in 2001. That same year, he began his apprenticeship under Fumio Kawabata, and in 2007, he joined the Kaneshige Ritoen kiln. Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition and various other juried competitions. He is currently an associate member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
